  • U.S. Access Board chair Karen Braitmayer to address Northwest Universal Design Council

    April 24, 2013

U.S. Access Board chair Karen Braitmayer is slated to speak at the July 11, 2013 meeting of the Northwest Universal Design Council. Braitmayer is the founder of Karen Braitmayer, FAIA, Seattle, WA, an architectural consulting firm specializing in accessibility and accessible design. She will discuss the work of the U.S. Access Board, an independent Federal agency devoted to accessibility for people with disabilities that is a leading source of information on accessible design, which she chairs.

Professionally, Braitmayer advises state agencies, local governments, school districts, other architects, and homebuilders and owners on accessibility under various laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act, and on compliance with state codes in housing, commercial, retail, institutional and educational projects. In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed her to the U.S. Access Board. She was elected board chair earlier this year.

The meeting takes place Thursday, July 11, 2013 (9:30–11:30 a.m.) in Seattle Municipal Tower Room 4080, located at 700 Fifth Avenue (5th & Columbia) in downtown Seattle. The public is welcome to participate.
