Beyond Barriers: Creating Accessible and Affordable Housing

Presented as part of the Housing Development Consortium’s Affordable Housing Week 2025

Learn how Universal Design can assist in creating inclusive, accessible, and affordable housing. In this webinar, the get an overview of the principles of Universal Design; hear practical strategies for incorporating UD into single-family homes and middle housing from Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity; learn about integrating UD into affordable multifamily construction projects from SMR; and gain insights from the City of Redmond about policies, codes, and incentives to promote UD. The session concludes with a listening session with WA’s Department of Commerce to gather feedback on enhancing UD in the Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards.
